How To Achieve Your Crazy Dream

0 weeks.

That’s how close my first Ironman race is.

If you’re unfamiliar with it, the Ironman consists of:

A 2.4-mile (3.9 km) swim.

A 112-mile (180 km) bike ride up and down hills.

A 26.2-mile (42 km) run, aka a marathon.

Back to back. One after the other.

Which is about 12 or 13 hours of nonstop movement.

In the grueling Californian heat.

It’s going to be the ultimate test of my physical and mental capacity.

And… it’s double what I did last year.

Yikes.

I’ve been training for 4 months now.

And I’ve never pushed myself this hard.

I’m averaging 2.5 hours of exercise per day.

I’m doing 4+ hour long bike rides every week.

But here’s the thing.

I’m doing it.

I’m actually fucking doing it.

I never thought I’d be able to swim, bike, run or swim for such long periods of time.

Heck, I never thought I’d be able to fit this kind of training into my schedule.

But see here’s the secret…

I didn’t know I could do it until I actually did it.

And I won’t know if I can complete an Ironman until I actually do.

So often, we restrict ourselves based on what we’ve done before.

We base our goals on what seems practical or possible.

We automatically ignore our most outrageous dreams.

We say we’re too busy, that there’s just no time.

But when you commit to something that seems so far out of reach, you eliminate the bullshit.

You can’t afford to be complacent, so you stop being complacent.

You get off your phone and hop into your running shoes.

You log off Instagram and write the first page of your next book.

See, there’s plenty of time in a day.

Plenty of time to commit to your wildest dreams.

But not nearly enough time to waste it wondering if you should...

So do it. Commit first, figure it out later.

You'll be surprised by what comes to life.

Love,

Matt
